WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE SCHEDULE

February 18, prior to the Prince George and Regina Pats game, "Steady" Eddie Staniowski and Big Clark Gillies, who both played together in the 1970's, had their sweaters retired above the rafters of the Agridome.

Tuesday, May 11, the WHL announced that Brent Sutter, a 36 year old native of Viking, Alberta, is the new owner, general manager, president, governor and head coach of the Red Deer Rebels.

April 28, Ed Staniowski, learned that he had been selected as WHL goaltender on the MasterCard All-time team.

The league followed the same format as the NHL in deciding overtime league games. A five minute overtime period with each team playing with four players, instead of the five during the regular game. A team scoring a goal in overtime is credited with two points and a victory in the win column. The team giving up a goal in overtime gets one point and the game is counted in the RT (Regulation Tie) and the loss column.

Shaun Fleming, Regina pat's back-up-goaltender, celebrated his fifth birthday. On February 29, 2000 Fleming -a leap-year-baby - was born on February 29, 1980.
