- Pre-Season Game #2

From: The Regina Pats Web

Regina goalie Adam Beukeboom was the star of the opening frame as he turned away numerous dangerous scoring opportunities from the Pats net.  The only one he couldn't stop came off the stick of his own defenceman as a Richard Nejezchleb centering pass deflected off the stick of Brandon Underwood and into the goal to give Brandon a 1-0 lead heading into the break.

It wasn't an ideal start to the second period for the Pats as Brandon's Ryan Pulock stretched the Wheat Kings' lead to 2-0 with a powerplay goal.  The Pats would get within one when Adam Brooks and Dane Schioler hooked up on a partial two-on-one making it 2-1 Brandon.

The Pats started to gain some momentum, but Brandon snuffed it out with two goals 46 seconds apart from Taylor Cooper and Alessio Bertaggia making it 4-1 for Brandon.  That could have been it for the Pats, but Dyson Stevenson was planted into the boards by Tyrel Seaman, setting up a five minute major powerplay situation.
Though the Pats couldn't muster much of an attack on the long advantage, newcomer Keaton Lubin ripped home the puck to bring the game back within two and give the Pats hope heading into the final frame, trailing 4-2.

The Pats rolled out strong in the early stages of the third period.  Connor Gay was the recipient of a great feed from Braden Christoffer to pull the Pats within one of the Wheat Kings.  The Pats wouldn't be able to pull even, though, as Ryan Pulock went end to end before passing off to Tim McGauley who finished off the play to give the Wheaties the 5-3 win.  Christoffer did have a chance to get Regina back within one, but couldn't capitalize on a penalty shot opportunity.

Despite allowing five goals, Beukeboom was strong between the pipes, turning away 28 shots on the evening.  The Pats were once again heavily outshot, tonight's totals sitting 33-17.  The Pats will return home for a week of practice before facing off with the Blades  Friday in their first game on the ice at the Brandt Centre.
