Part taken from the Regina Pats Web Site -  Like the Pats, the Ice opened the Regular Season on a down note, dropping  to the Edmonton and Calgary.  With both taking place on the road, the Ice will be geared up for their Home Opener tonight.  The Pats roll in with momentum after acquiring their first two points on the road in Swift Current.  The Pats featured a 2-1-1-0 record against Kootenay last season.

The Pats and goaltender Matt Hewitt came threw with a convincing victory over Swift Current. Down 3-0 after the first period, and Hewitt with 23 saves, Pats came back with four goals to win in overtime.

Tonight it will be 7:00 p.m. (Regina) time contest, broad cast over CKRM.  Matt Hewitt is under the weather, it gives Teagan Sacher (Left) his first chance as a goaltender in the WHL.  Griffin Mumby (Right) will be playing his first as a Defenceman in the WHL.

The Kootenay score keeper was terrible, kept changing things. One good example was the final shots for the third period. First he had it 13-8, then 15-8, then 11-8.  Also I wonder about the third goal by Kootenay, had wrong scorer.

First Period: The only goal was by Kootenay.  A turn over had  Eric Benoit coming out from behind the net and score on Pats goaltender Teagan Sacher at 16:22, unassisted.  Kootenay's goaltender Mackenzie Skapski made two spectacular saves on Pats Morgan Klimchuk during the period.

Penalties: Regina - Chandler Stephenson (Tripping) 0:42; Regina - Tye Hand (Major-Fighting) 5 min (Game Misconduct) 10 min; Regina -  Henry Hardarson (Boarding) 2 min (Major-Fighting) 5 min 3:14; Kootenay - Jonathon Martin (Major-Fighting) 5 min (10-Misconduct) 10 min; Kootenay - Mike Simpson (Instigator) 2 min, (Major-Fighting) 5 min, Game Misconduct) 10 min (Major-Fighting) 5 min 10-Minute Misconduct) 10 min 3:14; Kootenay - Collin Shirley (Tripping) 13:18

Score: Kootenay 1 - Regina 0; Shots: Regina 8 - Kootenay 4

Second Period:  Two penalties on the Regina Pats at the 13:38 mark, gave Kootenay a two man advantage.  With only 11 seconds remaining, Kootenay's Brock Montgomery parked in front of the net receives a pass from Sam Reinhart and scores at 15;27.  Ice go up 2-0.

Penalties: Kootenay - Joey Leach (Kneeing) 4:21; Regina - Morgan Klimchuk (Delay of Game) 8:43; Regina - Kyle Burroughs (High Sticking), Trent Ouellet (Roughing) 13:38

Score: Kootenay 2 - Regina 0; Shots: Kootenay 7 - Regina 4

Third Period:  Kootenay goes up 3-0 as Sam Reinhart scores on Jakub Prochazka's rebound at 15:30.  Pats finally scored as the puck was sitting on the goal line, Kootenay's goal tender kicked it in.  The goal was credited to Trent Ouellet, assisted by Adam Rossignol.  Kootenay scored the final goal on a power play, Reinhart's second goal at 19:23, assisted by Collin Shirley.

Penalties: Regina - Cole Hamblin (Cross Checking) 9:17; Regina - Chandler Stephenson (Interference) 18:31; Regina - H. Hardarson (Instigator) 2 min, Major-Fighting 5 min, Game Misconduct 10 min 19:32; Kootenay - J. Hubic (Charging) 19:32
