REGINA PATS DOWN

MOOSE JAW 4-1

Regina Pats Morgan Klimchuk scored two goals in the second period to help the home club to a 4-1 victory over visiting Moose Jaw.  With Klimchuk's two goals, it moves him into 9th in the WHL scoring race - 5 goals and 2 assists for 7 points in 6 games.

The local boys still can not stay out of the penalty box, even though they won this contest.  A total of 9 penalties: 6 minor 2 minute penalties, 2 major-fighting 5 minutes and 1 misconduct 10 minutes.  They are the most penalized team in the league with 134 minutes.

Taken from Regina Pats Web Site:  Pats score three powerplay goals en route to 4-1 victory over Moose Jaw.

 First Period:

The Pats came into tonight’s game looking for a sixty minute effort and they led off with a great twenty.  19-8 were the shots after one period of play for the Blue and White, and thanks to the powerplay, 1-0 on the scoreboard.  The second unit went to work down low in the Moose Jaw zone, and on scramble, as Adam Brooks kicked the puck to Adam Rossignol who finished off the unorthodox feed to give the Pats a lead through one period of play.

Second Period:

The second period was all about special teams as the Pats powerplay came up with two more goals.  This time it was the five forward attack getting things done.  First, Chandler Stephenson found Lane Scheidl as he buried the chance to put the Pats up 2-0.  Morgan Klimchuk and Trent Ouellette did some great work on the penalty kill to free up Klimchuk for a breakaway chance and the Pats leading goal scorer made no mistake firing in his own rebound for the shorthanded goal.  Morgan Reilly responded right away on the same powerplay to bring the Warriors back within two, but Klimchuk had an answer for that.  Again on the PP, Stephenson found Klimchuk sneaking in back door with a great cross-ice pass and the score was suddenly 4-1 much to the delight of the nearly 4,000 fans at the Brandt Centre.

Third Period:

The third period was more of a chess match as the Warriors tried to open the play up to create a big comeback while the Pats did a solid effort of locking things down.  Matt Hewitt was forced to make a few impressive saves as Moose Jaw pressed early, but his teammates helped turn the tide back to the offensive zone to eat up the clock.  It took two and a half periods, but the Regina/Moose Jaw rivalry reared its head with a pair of tilts featuring Jack Rodewald and Austin Bouris in the first scrap and Henry Hardarson going toe-to-toe with Reid Jackson in the second.  The Pats showed a much more disciplined game, only having to kill off four penalties on the night and picking up a shorthanded goal in the process.

Three Stars:

1. Chandler Stephenson – 2A - Regina
2. Justin Paulic – 31 SVS - Moose Jaw
3. Morgan Klimchuk – 2G - Regina

Regina outshot Moose Jaw 35-23 ... Matt Hewitt got the win in the Regina goal making 22 stops while Justin Paulic took the loss with 31 saves ... Pat Conacher was triumphant in his return to the Pats' bench after missing three games while attending to personal matters ... The Pats were 3/5 on the powerplay and 3/4 killing penalties
