SASKATOON EDGES REGINA 3-2
REGINA - Josh Nicholls scored twice to help the Saskatoon Blades edge the host Regina Pats 3-2 before a crowd of 3206 in the Brandt Centre Tuesday night.
Shane McColgan scored the game-winner for Saskatoon (6-9-0) during a power play midway through the third. McColgan, a product of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and a New York Rangers pick, also had an assist on the night. The victory snapped a two-game slide for the Blades.
Regina (6-10-1) got both its goals from Lane Scheidl while Morgan Klimchuk picked up a pair of assists. For the Pats, it was their third-straight loss.
The Pats scored on their first shot of the game during a power play just under two minutes in. Picking up an assist was Colby Williams. Nicholls responded for the Blades by scoring his thirteenth and fourteenth of the season in a three-minute span in the second.
Midway through the third Scheidl tied things up 2-2 with his second of the night after converting a nice feed from Colton Jobke. But on the next play Regina's Colten Mayor ran Blades goalie Andrey Makarov and on the following power play McColgan potted the game winner.
In the end each team went 1-for-5 on the power play. Makarov (6-8-0) made 24 saves for the win while Matt Hewitt (4-6-1) turned away 32 in the loss.
