Edmonton takes the Pats 7-1

Regina won all four meetings against the Champs last season. 
The Pats hope the trend continues

It’s the first meeting of the season between the Pats and the 2012 WHL Champion Edmonton Oil Kings.  Regina found success against Edmonton last season, as they won  all four meetings between the teams.  Morgan Klimchuk totaled six points in the four meetings for the Pats while Michael St. Croix picked up six of his own for Edmonton.  The Pats come into this evening’s contest after a 2-0 loss at the hands of the Calgary Hitmen.  Meanwhile, the Oil Kings were 5-2 winners on home ice against the Victoria Royals.  Tonight’s game can be heard on 620 CKRM starting with the Press Box Sports Bar Pre-Game Show at 4:35 p.m. CST.

Regina Northgate Mall area had a power failure for an hour, came on at 5:00 p.m. just in time to hear "Oh Canada" at the Edmonton game. Last night in Calgary it was another close game, 1-0 then an open net goal.  In Regina the same thing, it was Calgary 2-1, then two open net goals.

First Period:  No scoring -  Regina Pats had the best chance, short handed, had Morgan Klimchuk and Lane Scheidl.  Klimchuk made a nice pass to Scheidl only to have Edmonton's net minder Laurent Brossoit came up with a big save.

Second Period:  A pass to the side of the net by Dyland Wruck had Michael St. Croix scoring at 7:20 on a power play goal, also assisted by T.J. Foster. Less then three minutes later Edmonton scored their second power play goal by T.J. Foster on a rebound at 9:54, assisted by Klarc Wilson and Stehane Legault.

Third Period: Edmonton goes up 3-0 on their third power play goal. Michael St. Croix at the side of the net scores as the puck just slides over the goal line behind Pats goaltender Mat Hewitt just 45 seconds into the period, assisted by Henrick Samuelsson and Dyland Wruck. Two more quick goals by Edmonton in a minute and 26 seconds.  the first had Kalarc Wilson. So much for all the goals.
